Script Frenzy Home Stretch.
April 22nd, 2008
We are down to the last eight days of Script Frenzy, an annual event that challenges anyone willing to take it up, the task of writing a 100-page script in 30-days. This is my second year doing it and I found out about it when I was doing NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago. While it may sound like a daunting task, it’s not as tough as you might think.
This years script is a dramatic departure from what I did last year which was more of a spiritual thriller I called, “The Prophecy.” This one I entitled, “Like, Totally” which follows a couple of valley girls who try to bring fashion to their small town. The town I named Generictown is supposed to be in the mid-west where the only shopping is at the local Wal-Mart where the two girls work as cashiers.
After making several attempts at changing the fashion culture of the town, they decide that they will perform a seance to contact Gwen Stefani. For those familiar with seance’s, the person you try and contact is generally dead. That doesn’t hinder the determination of ‘Becca and ‘Chelle who continue the seance even after ridicule from ‘Becca’s older brother, Dean.
I certainly don’t want to give up the rest of the story. But let me tell you there is a lot of intrigue, witchcraft, death and hilarity. Just the ridiculousness of the whole script makes me smile and ultimately I feel like I’m shilling Gwen Stefani’s next non-existent album and summer worldwide tour. But that is what’s great about Script Frenzy, you can let your imagination run wild.
