Saturday = Movie Night.
April 27th, 2008
Not really. We don’t normally rent a lot of movies, but ever since my Mom started collecting Coke Rewards she’s been getting free rentals from Blockbuster. Today, we rented Ocean’s Thirteen the third in the trilogy. It’s hard to think of a series like this being considered a trilogy. I think a term like “trilogy” should be reserved for epic masterpieces like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, but here I am.
The Ocean’s Eleven series has been one of ups and downs. The first one, Ocean’s Eleven was fantastic. I’ve seen it numerous times and still not sick of it. Ocean’s Twelve on the other hand, I’ve seen only once. I have absolutely no idea what it was about but know that I was very disappointed it didn’t live up to the greatness of the first.
So when we went to rent a movie, we picked up several that were possibilities and then came across Ocean’s Thirteen. I wasn’t all that enthusiastic, but I let my Mom choose which movie she wanted to see of the ones we chose. She decided on Ocean’s Thirteen. Alright, I could sit through it, I mean I did sit through almost 3 hours of a high school musical production of Footloose, this should be easy.
Thankfully, it was. The movie was great and I could probably watch it again and again. I have only one real complaint, I had almost no idea what was going on for the first half. They did a lot of planning and brought in Eddie Izzard. Why? I don’t know. I still don’t know what his role was, that wasn’t made clear, or maybe it was and I wasn’t paying as close attention as I was supposed to. We through most of the movie and then all of a sudden, he makes an appearance at the very end. What?
Ocean’s Thirteen is a movie of subtlety. So subtle were the cons that if you weren’t paying attention, you would have missed a lot. However, the movie as a whole was incredibly entertaining. Was it better than the first? No, but definitely better then the second. I think I will go back and watch the second again, to make sure it was as bad as I thought.
